In the area of Nairn and Empire, an oil spill has occurred. The oil came from the oil pipeline operated by Shell Pipeline Company, LP.

The oil has spread between the Mississippi River levee, the Doullut (Empire) Canal, upper Nairn and out into the Bay Adams - Bayou Maringouin area. Many homes and businesses in this area have been damaged due to oil pollution.

As a result of the damages, a Class Action Complaint has been filed on behalf of the residents and businesses in the affected area. The case was filed in the United States District Court - Eastern District (New Orleans) and is entitled " Anna Zibilich Lincoln, John J. Pennison, Jr. K.J. Johnson and Harold J. Treadaway, Jr. versus Shell Pipeline Company, LP". The persons named are the class representatives.
